FROM 1994 Ford began using transponder keys (or chipped keys). This enhanced vehicle security vastly as it meant that a vehicle would only start when a specific code was transmitted from the transponder in the top of the key. Thus preventing the vehicle being ‘hot wired’ and stolen.

This system developed by Ford was known as PATS  (Passive Anti Theft System) which required no special procedures for the driver to arm / disarm the system.

The type of chip predominantly contained in these keys is known as a Texas fixed code type 4C (or T3) and can be clearly identified by a red mark on the top of the key. Another, more rarely used chip utilised on a few vehicles around this time,  the red mark is not present (transponder type 33 or ‘T5’).

STARTING FROM 1998 (though later in a number of Ford’s): Ford enhanced vehicle security further by using crypto chip’s, which rather than having a fixed code, they had a rolling code which changed every time the car was started. These chip’s are known as Texas crypto 4D type (or T7) and can be identified by a blue mark on the top of the key.
In 1998 Ford started supplying REMOTE CENTRAL LOCKING FOBS with new cars where the chip is contained within the unit, no red or blue mark on such fobs.

IF YOU HAVE A KEY ALREADY (1994 TO PRESENT) and simply require a spare: Providing extra keys (or remote fobs) is very straightforward  and takes a matter of minutes with our market leading equipment.

IF YOU HAVE LOST ALL KEYS then firstly a lock will have to be decoded in order to make a mechanical key which turns the locks. We will do this non destructively, causing no damage at all, with the very best picks and decoding tools available. We can literally do this while you wait.
Then keys (or remote’s) containing the correct type of chip are ‘introduced’ to the vehicle’s ECU (computer) memory by plugging our specialised equipment into the OBD (communication) port. Only then will the vehicle be allowed to start.

REMOTE KEY FOBS: If you’re after a remote central locking fob (even if you don’t have one at present then we can provide this for you (providing the vehicle came with one when new).

KEYS LOCKED INSIDE? Amongst other ways of this happening, many cars will self-lock if left unlocked (often after just a minute!) as a security measure. Using non-destructive techniques we can get into your vehicle and get you up and running again, even outside office hours! Call us immediately.
